Chomsky and Language and Apple

Noam Chomsky

The Evolution of Language,

With Apple at the Core

In Chomsky’s article, as stated on page 1, I feel that some traditions may be lost with the technological advances that we continue to make day after day.  Some traditions may be lost, such as the script that comes with the written hand, but more can be made, especially as Apple tries to accommodate for various languages and dialects and scripts.  Apple will work to change with the technology and bring as many languages into its programs as it can, and with it they will enhance the language and reach new audiences.  The prominent language of the time is changing with technology as technology is changing with the language of the time.  It was very interesting to read about how the groups of students at MIT studying Japanese were for vary different reasons, but the ones who did the anime and worked with the art and history and present times of the Japanese culture, truly excelled at.  They knew the language and were passionate about it, because it was fully dependent upon what they were learning unlike the business majors, despite the change to the Chinese.  The loss of language and change of culture is something that seems imminent as technology changes and society changes, because as a communicator we must use what will most effectively reach our audience and communicate to them, and unfortunately it seems that we do lose aboriginal languages, but we have to do what is a most accepted means of communication, and this statement is completely dependent upon technology.  As designers we can convey a message in a number of ways, by reviving vintage, stimulating designs as well as using futuristic ones, but as of the medium in which something is conveyed, the message cannot be completely foreign to the receiver otherwise nothing will be able to communicated.  This leads me to the point that although the experiment to revive the Wampanoag language, she will still have to learn English which is currently dominating the globe, and another language like Chinese, which is growing increasingly popular, because not enough people will be speaking Wampanoag, and if she cannot communicate with others than her mother, communication and thus life in general will be very difficult, and her unique fluency will not be of much benefit to her.
